People who say they are voting for Robert F. Kennedy Jr. are probably low-information voters.

Stephens in his opinion piece, of which the following is an excerpt, makes the case that Hamas is diabolically cynical and details why. It's a "win" for Hamas when Jews are killed; it's a "win" for Hamas when Palestinians are killed as it achieves sympathy and publicity. It should be no surprise that despite dire warning leaflets from Israel, Hamas tells its citizens not to evacuate.

Hamas spends fortunes building a war machine whose only purpose is to strike Israel. In 2014, The Wall Street Journal reported that with the money Hamas could have spent to build a single tunnel to infiltrate into Israel, it could have purchased construction supplies “enough to build 86 homes, seven mosques, six schools or 19 medical clinics.” At the time, Israel had identified at least 32 such tunnels.

A Hamas that wanted a more prosperous Gaza — one that did not make its neighbors put up fences around it and towers to guard them — could have it, simply by desisting from its ideological aims. If Gaza is the open-air prison that so many of Israel’s critics allege, it’s not because Israelis are capriciously cruel but because too many of its residents pose a mortal risk. For proof, just look at the Oct. 7 pogrom.

Again. I truly believe there's a problem like this. For those that haven't been tainted by knowing these horrible acts do happen, this is not in people's reality. So there's a resistance to believe it actually happens. I'm not poking the bears here. It's just reality of the human condition. Again, thanks to Carolyn Myss for explaining the reality of this is such detail.

These experiences change people's lives (some more than others and depending on circumstances). The idea that another human being would do things like this to another is repulsive to me.

As of right now, I'm in general agreement with Stephens. I will also put a caveat in to the framing of his answer. Now we wait for Israelis to respond. Will there be "civilians" killed? It's a good guess. Why? Define a civilian right now. This is a "terrorist" war, meaning the terrorists melt in to the civilian population, much like the Irish do, or Antifada does.

That said, is there wholesale murdering of civilians? Does the IDF commit rape, etc on the civilian population? This is out of bounds, as is beheading, etc.

The IDF has a really bad mission to clear tunnels. What would I do? I'd collapse them from above or within. You kill fewer civilians and get the Terrorists.

We also need to know if Hamas is going to start a guerilla war, this is a change of their operations. They haven't before, and there's always the possibility they'll escalate.

Just like the money we spend waste in places like Afghanistan could have been spent to end homelessness in the USA, given everyone in the country universal healthcare, eradicated hunger, eliminated student debt, yada, yada, yada... Funny how we ALWAYS see editorials like this about other countries - but we NEVER see them about our own.
